did people in the States take the duct tape alert seriously when it was first announced?

when I heard about it, I thought it was a joke.

Um no. When you forget about the fact that a lot of innocent people in Iraq and Afghanistan have and continue to suffer, then US and Ally soldiers and their families who have had to suffer, the past several years seem like some kind of surreal joke.

It was really embarrassing that people did actually go out and buy all that.

However it is probably a good idea to keep some bottled water around in case of a natural disaster. Would not recommend depending on the government having a fast response. No matter who is in charge.
